Locks are used to regulate the flow of the River Murray. A houseboat going up stream enters the lock and the doors close behind it, and within a few minutes the lock chamber is full, th elock opens at the other end and the vessel

I found this tonight because Mildura is getting a bit of rain and I just saw a picture of a four wheel drive with water up above the hub caps driving down a street.


At the moment the River Murray is flooding, and the lock is not needed as the water level above and below the lock are the same.
